| Bass Pro Shops Passes It On Bass Pro Shops has been supporting the Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors program for a number of years, with both financial and product donations to help us give more children a chance to experience the outdoors that we all know and love. One of the programs that has been a consistent fundraiser for Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors is their fishing reel trade-in program. Every year, Bass Pro Shops has their Fishing Classic, usually timed to prime the fishing fever in all those who have been waiting all winter to get back on the water. As part of the Fishing Classic, they offer a reel trade-in promotion where used fishing reels can be traded in for a coupon that the customer can then use for that fancy new one they need for the coming season. All the customer has to do is bring in a used reel in trade. And believe me, they aren’t that picky about what is traded in! “We are proud to be able to help the Pass It On program and their efforts to teach these kids to enjoy our great outdoors,” stated Bass Pro Shops Manager of Communications and Outdoor Education Larry Whiteley. “Having a partner like Bass Pro Shops assist us with the Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors program has been a great asset to the program,” Mike Christensen, President of Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors, Inc. added. You can imagine that a destination store like Bass Pro Shops would take in a large number of used fishing reels. And you would be right! Every kind imaginable. But what to do with all of these used fishing reels? That’s where the connection with Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors comes in. Stores that haven’t found a local outlet for the used reels (boxes and boxes of used fishing reels!!) send them to Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors to use for our outdoor mentoring program. Obviously, Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors can’t use all of these reels. With the assistance of some Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors volunteers, they sort through the thousands of used fishing reels. Baitcasting reels that are in working condition are put up for sale on eBay, with the proceeds used to host more outdoor events. The volunteers search through the spinning reels and set aside the best for the rod building program that is run in conjunction with the Custom Rod Builders Guild, so that the children who have built their own spinning rod have a reel to put on it. The volunteers sort out the best of the closed-faced reels to keep the inventory of fishing rods in working order for all of the fishing events hosted during the year. Thanks to Bass Pro Shops, Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors raises approximately $10,000 each year from these used fishing reels. This year, Bass Pro Shops stores in Nashville, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Garland and Grapevine all donated their used fishing reels to Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors. That’s really getting into the Pass It On spirit! Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors encourages all of our supporters to support those who make it possible to give more children a chance to enjoy the outdoors. Bass Pro Shops is one of the good guys!
