Building Fishing
Rods
From
a fly fishing BFAD (Big-for-a-Day) event, came a partnership that
has blossomed across the country, making it possible for matches
to spend time together building their very own custom fishing rod,
under the tutelage of an experienced custom rod builder.
Neal
Hall first attended a fly fishing BFAD in Wichita. Impressed with
what he saw of the Pass It On program, Neal contacted the other
board members for the Custom Rod Builders Guild and suggested that
the organization get invovled. From that beginning, a partnership
has grown that has resulted in volunteers from New York, Minnesota,
Wisconsin and Texas getting involved with the Pass It On - Outdoor
Mentors program and providing rod building classes in their local
communities.
In
particular, we would like to recognize Ron Walter of Wisconsin.
Not only has Ron offered the classes to his local BBBS agency, Ron
has traveled the state of Wisconsin, putting on 6-8 classes a year!
Below
are some photos from some of the rod building classes that have
been held around the country:

That's
a hard-working crew!

Not
only do the guild members donate their time to put on these classes,
a number of manufacturers donate all of the materials needed to
build the rods as well. Here is a listing of the manufacturers who
have donated thousands of dollars worth of rod building materials
to make these classes happen. Thank you everyone!
