Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors!
If
you and/or your organization are wanting to help get more kids the
chance to enjoy the outdoors that we all know and love, please consider
partnering with Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors, Inc.
Basically,
we need two things.
- Financial
Resources.
- Volunteers.
Like
every non-profit organization, we need the financial resources that
will allow us to continue the work we are doing. Operational expenses,
overhead, and events all require $$'s to make it happen.
The
National Shooting Sports Foundation and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation
were the first to step forward with financial assistance to help
get the Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors program rolling in 2002, contributing
a combined $400,000 to-date. Pheasants Forever chapters have supported
the program on a local basis in Kansas, donating over $30,000 to-date.
The RMEF PAC has donated over $15,000 and the NWTF has donated $7,500
in Kansas. It takes this and much more to allow us to begin expanding
the Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors program on a nation-wide scale.
And
we need volunteers. We need volunteers who will step up and become
mentors. And we need volunteers who can assist with scheduling/planning/hosting
events that will allow us to give children opportunities to learn
about and experience the outdoors.
For
example,
- the
Custom Rod Builders Guild has members across the country who are
volunteering to hold fishing rod building classes for our matches.
- Pheasants
Forever chapters are inviting BBBS Littles and matches to participate
in mentor hunts.
- The
National Wild Turkey Federation is offering free JAKES memberships
to BBBS Littles interested in the outdoors.
- Outfitters
and guides like Tim Telinde from Tallgrass Outfitters hosts a
youth hunt for BBBS Littles.
- Dan
Bell from Bell Wildlife Services has hosted a youth turkey hunt
for the last four years, providing wonderful memories for both
the Bigs and Littles involved.
- Charlie
Stowe has hosted matches for an afternoon of striper fishing on
Lake Texhoma.
- The
Z Bar Ranch has hosted deer hunts and fishing trips for the last
five years. The Texas Womens Shooting Sports hosts a youth day
for kids in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
