in the News!

The Pass It On program has received national recognition with articles appearing in several outdoor publications as well as local newspapers. Here are links to some of the recent articles on the program (Adobe Acrobat Reader Required).

2010:

  • iGunDog.com has stepped up as a supporter of Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors! They will begin donating to Pass It On a portion of the proceeds from sales on their website (http://www.iGunDog.com). Here is a link to the press release
  • Cabela's Outfitter Journal has a great article by Ben Romans on the elk hunt that Rich and Loren took last year. You can read the article here.
  • There is a nice article by Al Ward in the Topeka Capital Journal.  You can read the online version of it here: http://bit.ly/cp9dQu. Al took 2 boys from the local BBBS program for a day of fishing with Clyde “The Guide” Holscher with Guide Lines Guide Service (http://www.clydetheguide.com). The boys enjoyed some nice crappie and bass fishing and Al got some nice photos of some big smiles! We posted photos of the boys on our Facebook page. A Big Thank You goes out to Al and Clyde for giving the boys a great day outdoors!  Sounds like they will be wanting to again soon!
  • Michael Pearce, the outdoor writer for the Wichita Eagle ran a nice article on John Parsons, the artist responsible for our Outdoor Mentor series of sculptures. You can read it online here.

2007:

  • Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors, Inc. and the Hunting Retriever Club announced a partnership to work towards getting more kids outdoors. Here is a link to the news release.
  • The Hutchinson News carried an articlle in their November 24 edition discussing the decline in the number of hunters. You can read the article here.
  • The Emporia Gazzette carried an article in their November 16 edition by Phil Taunton. Phil writes about how having a mentor who was an outdoorsman affected the life a young man and where he is now.
  • The 5th Annual Youth Turkey Hunt, hosted by Bell Wildlife Specialties, was held 4/6-8 in Harveyville, KS. The Miami Co. Republican ran an article about one of the children who hunted with his mentor. You can read the article here.
  • The 2007 Mitch Telinde Memorial Youth Hunt was held March 24th, near Garden City, KS. A nice article in the Hutchinson News covered the event. You can read the article here.
  • Volunteers from the Miami Co area joined BBBS and Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors for an afternoon of busting clay targets! The event was covered by the local Miami County Republican. You can read the article here.
  • The Texas Women's Shooting Sports has a new publication out called Diva and it features an article about their 2nd Annual Day Camp for BBBS of North Texas. They had 100+ Littles out for a day of shotgun shooting, archery, casting, orienteering and retriever demonstrations. Here is a link to the article.   • MANITOWOC, WI - The August 5th edition of the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter carried an article about a recent fishing outing, hosted by the Northeastern Wisconsin Great Lakes Sports Fisherman and Seagull Marina. This was the 29th year that the group has hosted BBBS matches for a day fishing on Lake Michigan. Click here to read the article.

2006:

  • The local NBC affiliate in Wichita, KS featured a Pass It On match for their Wednesday's Child segment. Here is a link to KSN website to view the video.

  • The RodCrafters Journal (April-June, 2006 issue) has an article on their involvement with the Pass It On -- Outdoor Mentors program. The RodCrafters Journal is a publication of the Custom Rod Builders Guild. Guild members have been offering fishing rod building classes to BBBS matches for over 4 years now.   • Pheasants Forever magazine, in their Fall Preview 2006 issue, featured an article by on a special hunt hosted by PF member Tim Telinde. Tim went above and beyond with a memorial to his son. You can read the artilce here.

  • Quail Forever magazine, in their Summer 2006 issue, featured an article by Cheryl Riley, QF Youth Program Coordinator, urging QF members to contact their local BBBS agency and become a mentor. You can read the artilce here.

  • The Lone Star Outdoor News February 10th edition has an article on the Pass It On Program and the activities in Texas. You can read the article here.

  • The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Wapiti newsletter features an article on a Big-for-a-Day event hosted by the Neosho Valley RMEF chapter in Parsons, KS. You can read the article here.
  • Ted Nugent has signed on as Ambassador for the Texas Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors Program. Here is a link to the press release and a picture of Uncle Ted receiving a token of appreciation from Bill Flynt, Director of Pass It On for Texas.
  • The Kansas State Rifle Association posted a nice article on the deer hunt that KS BBBS had in December of 2005 on their website. You can read the article here. The Chisholm Trail Chapter of Safari Club International helped give some of our Littles a great hunt. The hunt was held on the Z Bar Ranch in south central Kansas.
  • The Kansas State Rifle Association included a nice article on their support of Littles participating in the 4-H Shooting Sports program in their Jul-Sep 2006 newsletter. You can view the article here. Pass It On -- Outdoor Mentors appreciates the support we have received from KSRA, making it possible for these Littles to learn about and enjoy trap shooting!

2005:

  • American Hunter magazine published a story in the November 2005 edition by Bruce Moon, titled "A Hunt Not Forgotten". Bruce was a Big Brother in 1989 and recounts the story of a deer hunt with his Little. Bruce is currently a successful lawyer in Ft. Worth and a member of the board of Directors of BBBS of North Texas. Have a hanky ready when you read this one!

  • Realtree posted a nice article on their website, detailing the deer hunt Realtree hosted last December (Realtree story) in West Virginia. This article was also published in the Quail Unlimited magazine and in the HunTeen magazine. In addition, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation posted the article on their website as well. This article really got around!

  • The Summer 2005 issue of the Pheasants Forever Journal of Upland Conservaion has an editorial on how youth hunting is on the decline and metions how the Pass It On program is providing opportunities for young hunters.

  • The Lakeland Times published a nice article on the fishing rod building classes that Custom Rod Builder Ron Walters has been teaching in Wisconsin. The Custom Rod Builders Guild has hosted fishing rod building classes in Kansas, New York, Texas and Wisconsin and we're working to form more partnerships between BBBS agencies and local rod builders across the country.

  • The Winter 2005 issue of RMEF's Wapiti newsletter has a nice article on the RMEF/Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors partnership.
  • The Fredericksburg, VA Free Lance-Star covered a fishing event that was jointly hosted by the local National Wild Turkey Federationand the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for 50 matches and waiting Littles.
